Abstract

The use of trypan blue was explored as a detection and quantification method for As(III). This procedure represents an improvement of the method described by Narayana et al. (2006) by using the shift in absorbance wavelength of an oxidized biological dye, trypan blue. The new procedure proposed is more sensitive at lower As(III) concentrations, ranging from 1x10⁻⁶ M to 1.4x10⁻⁴ M, and the solutions are more stable when exposed to visible light exposure than they are in the previous method. Apricot samples were tested to ascertain the success of the proposed method in a more complex matrix.
